Arts High School, Newark Public Schools, Newark, NJ

The original Arts High was constructed in 1931 with a steel skeleton and a decorative masonry façade including decorative terra cotta pieces at the building parapets and tower. In 2011 Newark Public Schools contacted CTS Group to stabilize the severely deteriorating parapets along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. In 2013, after the parapets had been stabilized, CTS was again called upon to review the entire building and create a restoration scope of work. The building required disassembly and reconstruction of the previously stabilized parapets as well as additional parapet areas. Multiple steel lintel/relieving angle replacements, replacement of large areas of cracked and displaced brick masonry, terra cotta restoration, and the removal and replacement of the existing roof system were all addressed in the restoration of this building.
