11 East 51st Street Historic Facade Restoration, New York, NY

The John Pierce Residence, known as Eleven East 51st Street, is an individual NYC landmark constructed in 1904-06.  This Italian Renaissance-style granite façade is distinguished by a polished base and 2 different textures above.

Work included Dutchman replacement of cracked stones as well as those severely damaged by metal anchors.  Restoration mortar patching, through a series of careful mockups for color and texture, was used to repair chipped, spalled and mechanically damaged stones as well as to fill old anchor holes.  The façade was selectively repointed based on scientific mortar sampling.  The facade was cleaned including the cornice which had been saturated by a damaged drain and gutter.  The decorative cast iron 2nd floor railing underwent extensive in-kind restoration and the large wood windows were marked and removed for shop restoration prior to re-installation.
